Latrobe Regional Hospital’s (LRH) leadership team recently hosted HSV’s Procurement and Executive teams for a tour of the expanded new facility.

The group toured the hospital ahead of the official opening of the $223.5 million site upgrade which includes expanded maternity services, new emergency department facilities and new operating theatres.

The tour was hosted by LRH Chief Operating and Procurement Officer Jon Millar and General Manager of Planning and Redevelopment Amy Portelli.

HSV’s Procurement Director Rebecca Prior said the visit was a great opportunity to meet with the LRH leadership team and find out how HSV can assist them with their objectives.

“We visited the impressive new clinical areas, along with some of the support facilities. The tour highlighted the patient focus and careful planning that went into the new facility.”

Rebecca said the visit helped the team to understand more about how HSV can assist regional health services with their requirements now and into the future.

“The LRH team can be very proud of what they’ve achieved here. It was great to hear more about their plans and the new services for the community that this expansion will bring,” she said.

LRH Chief Operating and Procurement Officer Jon Millar said the visit was a good opportunity for the team to understand more about the differences between running a rural and metropolitan health service.

“They are quite significant,” he said.

“It was great to meet the executive team and find out about what’s next for HSV in the next 18 months.”

The hospital also expanded the emergency department delivering a new resuscitation bay, six intensive care unit beds, 44 inpatient beds, a medical imaging and pathology unit and a central sterile services department.

It also added a six-bed emergency department mental health, alcohol and other drugs hub.

Speaking at the official opening in March 2024, Minister for Health Infrastructure Mary-Anne Thomas said: “This massive expansion means delivering more surgery, close to home – so more locals can come off waiting lists sooner, reducing pressure on other health services across the region.”
