Equipment sourcing activity forecast to double in 2023

Equipment sourcing activity forecast2

HSV’s medical imaging, radiotherapy and pathology equipment sourcing program continues to grow, with total expenditure coordinated on behalf of health services expected to approach $100 million this financial year.

“We’re only halfway through the financial year and the expenditure we’ve coordinated has already more than tripled the entire spend in the last financial year,” says HSV Head of Sourcing – Equipment Mark Lennen.

“We’re very happy more health services are choosing to work with us to help improve their commercial outcomes and secure fit-for-purpose medical imaging, radiotherapy and pathology equipment,” Mark says.

“We work in the best interests of health services and tailor our approach to their needs. This may mean offering advice and guidance at any stage of the procurement process or facilitating the procurement including leading commercial and negotiation processes,” he says.

HSV recently completed a successful ultrasound tender on behalf of Rural Northwest Health, and a computed tomography (CT) scanner and fluoroscopy tender for Western Health resulting in the provision of one fluoroscopy and two CT machines for the hospital.

Rural Northwest Health Interim Chief Executive Office Jodie Cranham says they were in constant contact with HSV during the recent high-end ultrasound tender.

“HSV helped negotiate with suppliers and kept in contact with the Department of Health throughout the process in relation to the technical assessment and capital funding,” Jodie says.

“With HSV’s assistance we secured a state-of-the-art unit at no additional cost to our health service,” Jodie says.

HSV’s Equipment Sourcing team has access to national and international pricing and individual cost component data, as well as tools and templates to expedite the process and improve health service outcomes. Importantly, health services retain decision-making authority over this process.

Benefits for health services include:

  • medical equipment procurement and market expertise
  • price benchmarking and quote reviews
  • assistance with supplier negotiations
  • technical expertise, often resulting in improved specifications and warranties
  • procuring equipment service, maintenance and software
  • contractual enforcement.
