Upcoming Victorian Renewable Energy Target auction confirmed

Story 8 Upcoming Victorian Renewable Energy Target auction confirmed2

Victoria is proceeding with an auction for sourcing at least 600 MW of new renewable energy generation capacity, enough to match the electricity requirements of government departments and agencies, including hospitals.

Key points:

  • The auction will contribute to the achievement of the legislated targets under the Victorian Renewable Energy Target (VRET).
  • HSV’s existing electricity retail contract is in place until 30 June 2023 and is not affected by this project.

This second auction – known as VRET2 – will contribute to the achievement of the legislated targets under the Victorian Renewable Energy Target (VRET) by supporting investment in new renewable generation at grid-scale within Victoria.

It will help create jobs in Victoria’s renewable energy sector and support Victoria's economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new renewable generation capacity being sourced will produce enough electricity to power Victorian hospitals and schools, Melbourne’s train network and other government infrastructure and services.

The project will help to achieve the government’s commitment to 100 per cent renewable electricity for Victorian government operations by 2025.

HSV's existing electricity retail contract is in place until 30 June 2023 and is not affected by this project.

HSV is actively collaborating with Victorian Government departments on the program and exploring future integration with hospital electricity purchasing.

For more information about VRET2 see the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning website.
