HSV prepares to implement Oracle FMIS and WMS

HSV statewide contracts deliver savings resize4

HealthShare Victoria (HSV) is establishing a supply chain for Victoria’s public health sector, transforming HSV to become a statewide service organisation that delivers long-term benefits.

In December 2021 HSV opened Victoria’s largest warehouse for public health goods in Derrimut, north west Melbourne, covering 24,000 square metres.

The next major milestone in the journey is the implementation of an Oracle Financial Management Information System (FMIS) and Oracle Warehouse Management System (WMS) on 28 March 2022.

The new systems will enable increased automation and improve functionality and operational capability, leveraging the Oracle platform already in place for the majority of Victoria’s public health services. The system provides the platform to establish ordering processes across the whole of the Victorian health system.

Once implemented, HSV’s seven health service customers will order products from HSV. This first tranche of health services includes:

  • The Royal Melbourne Hospital
  • The Royal Children’s Hospital
  • The Royal Women’s Hospital
  • The Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital
  • Northern Health
  • Western Health
  • The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

HSV Executive Director Transformation Hugh McKerrow says the new FMIS and WMS systems will provide the foundation for HSV to scale operations.

“Current stock in our Distribution Centre takes up just six per cent of the available space, excluding Rapid Antigen Tests” says Hugh.

“These new FMIS and WMS systems will enable HSV to scale operational capability as we prepare to expand our supply chain services statewide in the future.”

When implemented, HSV’s end-to-end medical consumables supply chain will integrate sourcing, ordering, purchasing, warehousing and delivery, to bring a range of benefits for health services. It should also ultimately link with the yet-to-be-scoped demand planning software as part of the ordering process.

HSV will help hospitals to support better patient outcomes, chiefly by maximising their purchasing power through more consistent stock availability and significant discounts for bulk orders.

“We’re continuing to engage with other health services beyond the first tranche as part of a staged transition, with the aim that most health services will move to full service provision in the coming years,” he says.

HSV’s transition will also build on existing areas of excellence, including taking responsibility for the COVID-19 PPE State Supply Chain, established and managed by Monash Health since the beginning of the pandemic.

“We hope to build on the success of the shared centralised supply chain model and incorporate Monash Health’s good practices into our expanded supply chain,” says Hugh.
