HealthShare Victoria collaboration builds on current expertise

An important part of HealthShare Victoria’s (HSV’s) transition has been to incorporate, share and build on existing areas of excellence, including taking responsibility for the COVID-19 PPE supply chain established and managed by Monash Health.

HSV is working closely with Monash Health to leverage successful supply chain operations for the benefit of health services.

Key points:

  • HSV’s transition builds on the success of the existing state-wide COVID-19 PPE supply chain established by Monash Health.
  • HSV is working with Monash Health to leverage supply chain operations to benefit health services.
  • Implementation of the new end-to-end supply chain will be staged as service reliability is established.

HSV Chief Executive Neil Rodaway says a major part of this work has involved HSV working closely with Monash Health to secure COVID-19 PPE and build on the success of the shared ‘centralised’ supply chain model.

"HSV is leveraging Monash Health’s successful supply chain operations to extend these benefits to all health services and incorporate their good practices into the expanded supply chain. Equally, we will leverage HPV’s expertise to undertake state-wide sourcing contracts,” he says.

“HSV is staging the implementation of the new end-to-end supply chain as benefits and service reliability are established, with the aim that most health services will move to full service provision in the coming years.”

HSV, Melbourne Health Logistics and Monash Health supply chain experts are also working closely together on all aspects of the new distribution centre implementation – including site layout, design and function – since HSV took possession in early January 2021.

Safety, clinical expertise and operational excellence are driving forces. As the distribution centre is established it will consolidate stock lines across the state and work with health services to onboard them into agreed service models.

HSV has undertaken engagement activities, including briefing sessions and workshops for regional and rural services, over the past several months to better understand health service requirements and preferences.

HSV will continue this important engagement activity and provide greater clarity and relevant detail for specific health services as it is available.

“HSV appreciates health services’ need for greater visibility and improved change management, which is an important part of our approach to closer, more effective customer engagement,” says Neil.

“The engagement, contribution and guidance from MHL and Monash Health in sharing their expertise – and importantly, as customers – is not only very much appreciated and acknowledged, it is a great example of the model we have in place to leverage existing expertise across the state,” says Neil.
