Middle East conflict supply surety update - 20 March

Fuel supply

The Department of Health (DH) issued a bulletin on 16 March, which addressed liquid fuel supply. It advised health services to contact their usual service continuity contact with concerns. We are following up with DH about who this contact should be and will let you know when we have an answer.

We note that the Victorian Government is appointing a Class 2 energy controller within the State Control Centre to monitor the fuel supply situation and the federal government has established a national fuel supply taskforce to manage Australia's response to the oil crisis.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates as appropriate.

Supplier risk assessment

We have continued to follow up with suppliers as part of our risk assessment activity. The feedback remains consistent, indicating that there is no immediate risk to supply.

  • Most suppliers reported having sufficient stock cover, with additional supply already in transit that is not expected to be impacted.
  • Where minor delays have occurred, suppliers do not expect these to affect continuity of supply.

We remain in contact with our suppliers to monitor potential risks.

Stryker cyber incident

We have had confirmation that Stryker’s customer service, warehousing and areas related to health services are back online. The team is working through the backlog of orders as a priority.

Please direct any escalations for urgent orders to your local Stryker representative.

HSV Logistics – network and distribution preparedness

Our Derrimut and Dandenong South distribution centres are operating as normal and are:

  • monitoring throughput and demand patterns
  • preparing to respond to potential demand variability or surges.

Transport operations are being actively reviewed to ensure:

  • continuity of delivery schedules in full and on time
  • flexibility in routing and capacity should conditions change.

At this stage, there is no change to delivery frequency or service levels. We will keep our Logistics customers informed if this situation changes.

Next steps

We are currently meeting with CPOs and Supply Directors across the state as part of our regular cadence of quarterly CPO meetings. Supply surety due to the Middle East conflict is a key agenda item. We will continue to monitor developments with our suppliers and provide updates as the supply outlook changes. If you receive any feedback from suppliers or would support on supply matters, please let us know via the HSV Helpdesk: helpdesk@healthsharevic.org.au.
