Victorian health services to benefit from HSV management of cyber security contracts

Victorian health services to benefit from HSV management of cyber security contracts

Following the success of an HSV-led tender for an endpoint detection and response tool in late 2024, the Department of Health’s Strategy, Cybersecurity and Assurance Branch has transferred management of cyber security-related sourcing activities to HSV.

The Department of Health’s Deputy Chief Information Security Officer Luke Johnson says it made sense for HSV to take the lead on procuring cyber security technology for the public health sector.

“By working with HSV we can get the best price, best products and best systems – we proved that with the tender for the endpoint detection and response tool (EDR) last year.”

The benefits for health services include standardisation of services together with cost savings and a more streamlined procurement process.

“This is a government approach – health services across the state will have the same configuration and protection against cyber threats.

The team at HSV is amazing at making sure we get the best price, which is far better than what we could get on our own,” says Luke.

HSV Head of IT Sourcing John McKinlay says his team will run sourcing activities for asset discovery, password blacklisting and vulnerability management in the coming months.

“We have a large number of activities coming up in the next 12 months. Like the endpoint protection tender, we can select market-leading solutions to ensure health services are fully protected from cyber threats,” he says.

The first of the cyber security-related tenders managed by HSV for an endpoint detection and response tool, was completed in six weeks in November 2024 and secured significant cost savings for the state.

Since it commenced, 90 per cent of Victorian public health services have opted to access the agreement.
