Product recalls – health service arrangements
This information is for health services. For supplier information please go to Product tracking and recall arrangements.
Product recalls in Victoria’s health sector are managed by GS1 Australia, which provides two real-time product recall and withdrawal notification systems: Recall and Recall Health. Each system manages recalls and withdrawals for different types of products:
- Recall: food, beverage and retail products.
- Recall Health: therapeutic goods.
Suppliers, manufacturers and sponsors create notifications in the relevant system within the parameters required by the appropriate industry regulator. Suppliers can also submit recall notifications directly to the relevant regulator for review and approval. The regulators are:
- Recall: Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
- Recall Health: The Therapeutic Goods Administration's (TGA) Procedure for Recalls, Product Alerts and Product Corrections (PRAC).
HSV and health service responsibilities
In accordance with the guidelines established by the relevant industry regulator, HSV will take appropriate actions in response to recalls, alerts and corrections relating to goods and medical consumables that are within the HSV supply chain (such as being held in an HSV distribution centre or are in transit on their way to a health service).
Health services maintain responsibility for product recall requirements once they take delivery of the stock.
If your health service is impacted by a recall, HSV will notify you through the GS1 portal.
