HealthShare Victoria launched

HealthShare Victoria launched on 1 January 2021 as Victoria’s new public sector, commercially oriented health service organisation providing state-wide end-to-end supply chain, procurement and shared services.

HealthShare Victoria (HSV) brings together the functions of Health Purchasing Victoria (HPV), and Melbourne Health’s warehousing and logistics operations.

Key points:

  • HSV is a new public health service organisation providing state-wide end-to-end supply chain, procurement and shared services.
  • Initial activities include establishing HSV's new distribution centre in Melbourne and preparing to onboard the first tranche of health services.

During 2020-21, HSV’s focus is on establishing a large new distribution centre in north-west Melbourne and preparing to onboard our first tranche of health service customers.

“HSV is a new service organisation created to lead significant improvements in Victoria’s medical supply chain and establish shared services,” says inaugural HSV Chief Executive Neil Rodaway.

“While HSV is building on HPV’s functions, we have a very different profile, operational footprint and change imperative. As we align our organisation to meet these new challenges, our focus is on making sure our key stakeholders are aware of and engaged with HSV.”

HSV is focused on delivering substantial benefits for health services – maximising their purchasing power and improving the consistency of access to goods and services – that help them improve outcomes for patients.

“HSV will work closely with health services for the benefit of all and is putting customer engagement and service first in achieving these goals,” Neil says.

The first group of HSV customers will build on the shared service model initially established by Melbourne Health, in a modern distribution centre to be equipped with the latest systems and support technology.

Other metropolitan, regional and rural health services are expected to follow in subsequent tranches.

A key HSV stakeholder and sponsor is the Department of Health, and HSV is working closely with the department to plan and develop shared services functions that are informed by health service input.

Departmental support includes involvement in establishing the COVID-19 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) State Supply Chain, the current COVID-19 vaccination program and developing other services such as common payroll systems and a standardised, consistent suite of HRIS functionality.

To support HSV’s transition, a website and other collateral featuring new corporate branding was launched on 1 January. For more details visit https://healthsharevic.org.au/.
