Congratulations to Western Health and its partners on new Footscray Hospital opening
The new Footscray Hospital has officially opened, marking a significant milestone for Western Health.
HealthShare Victoria’s General Manager of Logistics Operations Andrew Heggie says HSV is proud to have been involved with the stock build for the new hospital.
Since September 2025, HSV’s Derrimut Distribution Centre has delivered 13,700 items to 155 storerooms across the hospital’s 12 levels, in preparation for its opening earlier this month.
“We’re very proud of this important project completed with Western Health. I want to thank our end-to-end Supply Chain team including our Customer Operations, Replenishment, Inventory and Distribution Centre teams for the many hours they have dedicated to this project. They created 440 new imprest locations, tracked a huge number of inbound orders and organised and delivered significant volumes of goods to the new hospital. The success of the project reflects the strong collaboration between HSV and Western Health,” he said.
HSV Project Coordinator Lucy Williams says the teamwork between HSV and Western Health was instrumental to the success of the project.
The project team visited the site several times during the fit-out phase, to gain a better understanding of operational needs.
“This achievement reflects the dedication and shared commitment from both sides, and I’m incredibly proud of the professionalism and care our project team has brought to supporting the new Footscray Hospital,” she says.

Stocking the new hospital was a huge undertaking with 155 storerooms to be filled in addition to patient point-of-care areas. Western Health asked HSV’s Customer Relationship Managers for help with stocking shelves – a call answered by CRMs Mike McCrabb and Aaron Atkinson who spent a day in the perioperative services sterile storeroom, stocking shelves with sterile clinical consumables for use in the operating theatres.
HSV Head of Customer Relationships Sergio Lacchiana says the team was happy to step in and support Western Health.
“We have a longstanding relationship with the team at Western Health and Mike and Aaron were happy to go beyond their normal duties and step in to help make the project a success,” he says.
The $1.5 billion health service on the corner of Ballarat and Geelong Roads opened on 18 February with the successful move of 115 patients across from the old hospital.
The new hospital, which has 500 inpatient beds including critical care, mental health and medical imaging, features wards with natural light and outdoor spaces, designed to promote faster recovery times. It also includes a pandemic pod in the ICU for the treatment of patients with infectious diseases.
Footscray hospital is one of Victoria’s largest investments in health infrastructure and will provide state-of-the-art care for patients in Melbourne’s inner west.
